Wix SEO: What Wix handles and what you set yourself.

Wix is better for SEO than its reputation: every Wix site is rendered on the server, and the sitemap, canonical tags and structured data for blog posts are created automatically. Whether you get found comes down to a custom domain, well-kept titles and descriptions, and a blog that answers your customers’ questions. Claire writes the articles and publishes them straight to your Wix Blog.

Wix SEO basics

What Wix already does. And what you set yourself.

Wix takes most of the technical work off your hands. These eight points still decide whether Google and AI search understand your site.

01

The old reputation and today’s tech

Wix long had a reputation as weak for SEO. Today, Wix says every site is rendered on the server. So the text is already in the HTML the server sends, including for crawlers that don’t run JavaScript. Two blog posts on Wix sites that we fetched like an AI crawler without JavaScript on October 8, 2026 each delivered more than 1,400 words of text.

What Wix doesn’t give you is full access to the code. You don’t need it for the SEO basics: titles, descriptions, redirects, robots.txt and structured data can all be set inside Wix.

Run the AI crawler checker
02

A custom domain

On the free plan your site lives at an address like name.wixsite.com/sitename. According to Wix, a custom domain requires a premium plan, and so does connecting Google Search Console. If you want to be found, the upgrade is hard to avoid.

03

Title tag and meta description per page

For every page, the SEO basics in the editor hold the title tag, meta description and URL slug. Wix recommends keeping the title tag under 60 characters and the meta description between 50 and 160.

For whole page types, such as all blog posts, you set templates in your dashboard under SEO & GEO > SEO Settings. Put what people search for in the title, and why they should click on you in the description.

04

Use the Wix SEO Setup Checklist

Wix walks you through the basics with a checklist: you add three keywords that describe your business and connect your site to Google. Wix then submits your sitemap to Google itself. The checklist doesn’t analyze your blog, though.

05

Sitemap, robots.txt and redirects

Wix keeps your sitemap up to date at /sitemap.xml, with separate sitemaps for blog posts and categories. You edit robots.txt in the Robots.txt Editor under SEO & GEO. Check there that AI crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot are allowed.

For moved pages there’s the URL Redirect Manager with 301 redirects, on custom domains only. Important for your blog: if you change a blog post’s slug, Wix doesn’t create a redirect automatically. You set it up yourself.

06

Structured data and canonicals

Blog posts, Wix Stores products, Wix Bookings services and Wix Events pages get structured data in JSON-LD automatically. You can add your own markup, up to five per page and each under 7,000 characters. By default, Wix sets the canonical tag to the page’s own URL.

07

Images with alt text

Give images alt text that describes what’s in them. It helps screen readers and Google Images. For a blog post’s cover image, the field sits right under the image in the post composer.

08

Multiple languages with Wix Multilingual

Wix Multilingual puts additional languages in subdirectories like /fr by default and adds hreflang and x-default tags automatically. Make sure titles and descriptions are actually translated for each language.

Wix Blog

Wix Blog: set up in minutes, working for months.

Your pages say what you offer. A blog answers the questions people ask before that, which is exactly what they type into Google and ChatGPT.

01

How to add the Wix Blog

The blog is a Wix app you add to your site:

  1. In the editor, click Add Apps and search for “Wix Blog”.
  2. Click Add to Site. Wix creates two pages: your blog feed and the page for single posts.
  3. Wix asks whether to install a members area as well.
  4. Write new posts in your dashboard under Blog with “Create New Post”.
02

SEO for every post

In the post editor, the SEO tab on the left holds the title tag, meta description, URL slug and the indexing switch. Wix creates default SEO settings for blog posts. For posts that should rank, write your own title and description.

A post’s URL looks like this: your-domain.com/post/post-title. You can rename the “post” prefix, but not remove it. Categories and tags get their own pages.

03

What a good article needs

An article doesn’t sell by listing services. It helps someone make a decision, and your offer is the logical next step.

  • A real question people search for as the topic.
  • The answer in the first paragraph, then details, examples and numbers.
  • Links to two or three matching services or products, not twenty.
  • Its own cover image, page title and meta description.
  • Upkeep: prices, rules and numbers go out of date.
04

Where blogs on Wix usually stall

Not in the editor, but in the calendar. A good article needs a topic, research, writing, an image and upkeep, on top of your day-to-day work.

Wix has AI tools in the post editor that suggest a full draft, an outline, topic ideas or meta tags. Which topics people actually search for, whether the facts are right and whether an article goes out every week is still up to you.

Claire and Wix

How Claire works with Wix. Straight to your Wix Blog, with your approval.

Claire finds topics your customers search for, writes the articles in your voice and creates them in your Wix Blog, with SEO title, description, slug and cover image. Claire doesn’t touch your site’s pages, design or store.

Connect in three steps

1

Create an API key in Wix

In your Wix account, go to Account Settings > API Keys, generate a key and grant “Blog”, “Media Manager” and “Members” (read). Wix shows the key only once, so copy it right away.

2

Paste key and site ID

In Claire, choose Wix and paste the key and your site ID. The ID is part of your Wix dashboard URL; pasting the full URL works too.

3

Claire checks the connection

Claire checks that the key works, that the Wix Blog is installed and that your site has a member the posts can appear under. If something is missing, Claire tells you what to do.

What Claire fills in Wix

Title and content
Headline and text in the Wix editor’s own format, with subheadings, lists, quotes, links and emphasis. You keep editing everything in Wix as usual.
SEO title and meta description
Claire fills them into the post’s SEO settings.
URL slug
A readable slug built from the headline. The URL sits under your blog’s prefix, /post/ by default.
Cover image
Created by Claire to match the article and uploaded with alt text to your Wix Media Manager, once per article.
Excerpt and language
The excerpt for the blog feed if the article has one, and the article’s language.
Author
Wix requires an author for each post. Claire uses the first member of your site when you connect.
Tables and inline images
Wix doesn’t accept text as HTML. Tables therefore arrive as separate paragraphs, and Claire doesn’t transfer images inside the text to Wix yet.
Categories and tags
Not set by Claire on Wix yet. Add them in the Wix Blog if you need them.

When an article goes live

Approve with one click

Every finished article waits in Claire. You read it, change whatever you like and publish it with one click. Only then does Claire create it in Wix and put it live.

On a date

You can also schedule articles for a day. Claire creates them as drafts in your Wix Blog ahead of time and publishes them on that date.

Good to know

When Claire updates an article, she updates the same post in Wix, which replaces any edits you made there by hand. If you withdraw an article in Claire, Claire deletes it in Wix, because Wix has no way to hide a post. It stays in Claire.

How Claire finds gaps, writes articles and publishes them is shown on the homepage.

Questions

Good to know.

Is Wix good for SEO?

For most small and mid-sized websites, yes. Wix renders every page on the server, maintains the sitemap itself, and sets canonical tags and structured data for blog posts. You do need a custom domain and a premium plan; otherwise you miss out on things like the Search Console connection. In the end, well-kept titles and content that answers questions decide your rankings.

What are the disadvantages of Wix for SEO?

No full access to the code, a prefix like /post/ in every post URL that you can rename but not remove, and no automatic redirect when you change a blog post’s slug. On the free plan, add the wixsite.com address and the missing Search Console connection.

How do I start a blog on Wix?

Add the “Wix Blog” app to your site in the editor. Wix creates the blog feed and the post page. You then write new posts in your dashboard under Blog.

Can I do Wix SEO myself?

Yes. The Wix checklist walks you through the basics, and you can handle the points on this page without an agency. What takes time is the ongoing part: regular articles on topics people search for. That’s the part Claire can take over.

Are blogs still worth it in 2026?

Yes, but differently than before. Company news brings hardly any visitors. Articles that answer specific questions get found on Google and cited by AI search like ChatGPT. What matters is that they come out regularly and stay up to date.

What does Claire need from my Wix site?

An API key from your Wix account with permissions for Blog, Media Manager and Members (read), your site ID, the installed Wix Blog and at least one member as author. Claire stores the key encrypted, and you can revoke it in your Wix account at any time.

Try it on your own website. Set up in 15 minutes.

Enter your website, connect your blog, read the first draft. Claire takes care of the rest.
