Comparison · As of Oct 5, 2026

GEO tools compared. What they track, what they cost, what users say.

GEO tools, also called AI visibility tools, show you whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and other AI search engines mention your brand. All of them measure. When it comes to acting on the results, they differ widely: from recommendations and content briefs to writing assistants to agents that publish to your CMS. Here are the best-known ones side by side, with prices from the vendors’ own pages and ratings from G2.

Criteria

What matters. Four questions for every tool.

1

What gets tracked

Which AI search engines, how many questions (prompts) and how often. And whether the tool shows which sources the answers rely on.

2

What it costs

Entry price from the vendor’s own page, monthly and billed annually, with the date we checked.

3

What users say

Average rating and number of reviews on G2 and OMR Reviews, plus the strengths and weaknesses that come up again and again.

4

What happens next

Whether the tool only delivers numbers or also creates and publishes content.

All tools side by side. As of Oct 5, 2026.

Prices from the vendors’ pages, ratings as average with the number of reviews in brackets. As SEO suites, Ahrefs and Semrush have many reviews, but none of their own for their AI modules.

Recommendation

Which tool fits you. Depending on your use case.

Tracking only, small budget

Otterly.AI has the cheapest entry: $29 a month for 15 prompts across four AI search engines. If you need more questions, the next plan at $189 is a big step up.

Otterly.AI in detail

Tracking and deep analysis, as a team

Peec AI tracks 50 prompts from $95 a month and shows exactly which sources AI answers draw on. Users praise the interface but expect some onboarding effort.

Peec AI in detail

Big brand, many markets

Profound tracks up to nine AI search engines and comes with AI agents for content; pricing for brands is on request. Scrunch AI starts at $250 a month and, according to its pricing page, also generates content, in a basic version on the entry plan.

Profound in detail

You already use Ahrefs or Semrush

Check their AI modules first. Ahrefs includes 5 custom prompts from the Lite plan. Semrush tracks 25 prompts in its standalone “AI Visibility” plan from €94.94 a month, and 50 prompts in its “SEO + AI Search” package from €190. That’s often enough to start.

Agency with several clients

Peec AI has its own agency plans, Otterly a partner program with more prompts, Profound an agency plan from $99 a month plus $399 per client workspace. If you also want to deliver the content for clients, you can offer Claire as a reseller or under your own brand.

Claire for agencies

No team to write the content

A pure tracking tool shows you the gaps; closing them is up to you. Claire tracks ChatGPT and Google AI, writes an article for every gap and publishes it after your approval, from €299 a month.

How Claire works
To be honest

If you have your own content team or an agency that writes, a pure tracking tool is often the better choice: cheaper to start, broader in what it tracks and deeper in its analysis. Claire is worth it when nobody has time to turn the numbers into articles.

Questions

Good to know.

What does GEO stand for?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization: making sure AI search engines like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews or Perplexity know your brand, describe it correctly and recommend it. It’s also called AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) or AI search optimization.

What is a GEO tool?

A tool that measures whether and how AI search engines mention your brand in their answers. To do this, it regularly asks a fixed set of questions, called prompts, and analyzes the answers. The same category is also sold as AI visibility tools or LLM visibility tools.

What are the best AI visibility tracking tools?

It depends on your case. In user ratings, Peec AI and Otterly.AI lead, both with 4.7 on G2 and 4.8 on OMR Reviews. Profound has the largest base with 1,130 G2 reviews and an average of 4.5 (all as of October 5, 2026). For a small budget, Otterly fits; for deep analysis as a team, Peec; for large enterprises, Profound. If you don’t produce content yourself, check whether the tool also writes and publishes, or you’ll need someone who acts on the results.

How much do GEO tools cost?

According to the vendors’ pages (as of October 5, 2026), from $29 a month (Otterly Lite, 15 prompts) through $95 (Peec AI Starter, 50 prompts) and $250 (Scrunch Core, 125 prompts) up to enterprise pricing on request (Profound). Ahrefs and Semrush have built AI tracking into their SEO packages and also sell it separately, Semrush for example from €94.94 a month (25 prompts).

Can GEO replace SEO?

No. AI search engines build their answers from web pages, often from the same well-structured, up-to-date articles that rank on Google. GEO adds a new place to be visible and new things to measure, but it rests on the same foundation: content that answers real questions.

What are GEO metrics?

The common ones are visibility (in how many answers your brand appears), position (where it appears), sentiment (how it’s described), share of voice against competitors and the sources the answers cite. Peec AI, Otterly.AI and Profound all list variations of these on their pricing pages.

How accurate are GEO tools?

Only to a degree. AI answers change from one query to the next, and users say so in their reviews: results fluctuate and are more of a snapshot. Trends across several weeks and many prompts are meaningful, single answers aren’t.

Do I need a GEO tool if I already have Ahrefs or Semrush?

Often not at first. Ahrefs includes 5 custom prompts from the Lite plan (€119 a month), and Semrush tracks 25 prompts in its “AI Visibility” plan from €94.94 a month and 50 prompts in its “SEO + AI Search” package from €190. Specialized tools usually offer more choice of AI search engines, countries and source analysis, though their smallest plans don’t necessarily track more prompts.

Does Claire track AI visibility too?

Yes, but more narrowly than the tracking tools: on Growth (€299 a month), Claire checks up to 30 topics with 5 questions each in ChatGPT and Google AI and shows position and competitors per question. The difference from pure tracking tools: Claire writes an article for every gap and publishes it after your approval.

How we compared

Method and sources, as of Oct 5, 2026

  • Compiled on October 5, 2026 by Claire (wordsmattr GmbH, Vienna). We offer an AI visibility tool ourselves and are therefore not neutral. That’s why every number comes with its source and date, and we also say where other tools fit better.
  • Ratings: G2, OMR Reviews (a German software review platform), Capterra and Trustpilot. G2 doesn’t allow automated retrieval. Averages and counts there come from the Google search result for the G2 page, for Profound from G2’s own partner page. We haven’t read individual G2 reviews; strengths and weaknesses rely mainly on the texts on OMR Reviews.
  • Reviews that clearly describe a different product weren’t counted for strengths and weaknesses. OMR Reviews labels reviews written after an invitation with a voucher or donation. That says nothing about individual texts, but it can raise the average.
  • Reddit: direct retrieval is blocked. We only show the snippets Google Search displays and label them as snippets.
  • Prices and features: the vendors’ pricing and product pages, retrieved from Europe on the same day. Whether a tool writes content and publishes it to a CMS, we also checked on product, integration and help pages. Some vendors show euros or dollars depending on your location. Prices change; the vendor’s own page is binding.
  • Quotes: verbatim and shortened, with role, rating and date, without names. Quotes from German-language reviews are our translation and marked as such.
  • Not done: our own hands-on test with a trial account. Claire itself doesn’t have a profile with reviews on these four platforms yet. We update this comparison quarterly.
