Hotel SEO & AI visibility for hotels, inns and B&Bs.
In short: for “sedona hotels”, booking sites and travel media hold the first page, and a blog changes little there. Before they book, though, guests plan the trip: “things to do in sedona” gets 40,500 searches a month, 17 times as many as “where to stay in sedona”. Nobody answers those questions better than a local host, and Google’s AI Overview already cites hotels and inns for them. Claire finds your guests’ questions, writes the answers in your voice and publishes them on your website once you approve.

When people search
Leaf season gets searched from summer on.
Searches for “vermont fall foliage” more than double from July to August and peak in September and October at 22,200 a month. A new article needs time before Google places it, so a foliage guide belongs online by early summer, not in September. The same goes for winter: “cape cod in winter” is highest in December and January.

Google and AI answers
Who answers today when your customers ask.

The levers
Five levers in your own hands.
Your Google Business Profile, reviews, good photos and a booking engine are the foundation, and you look after those yourself. What brings guests beyond that are answers to the questions they ask before they book.

Booking sites for the room search, your own pages for the questions before.
Against Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor, a single property rarely wins “hotels + town”. For questions about the area, the occasion and the season, it can, because booking sites have little of their own to say there. That’s where your guides come in.
EvidenceOn October 5, 2026, seven of nine organic results for “sedona hotels” (49,500 searches a month) came from booking and review sites, the tourism bureau, travel media and Reddit. For “things to do in cape cod”, three Cape Cod lodgings were among the sources of Google’s AI Overview.
Explain the area you see every day.
Trails, beaches, the best month to come, what to do when it rains, where to eat in the off-season: you know the answers from conversations at the front desk. Written down, they become pages guests find before the trip and AI answers cite.
EvidenceFor “best time to visit sedona” (5,400 a month), the season guide of Sky Ranch Lodge, a family-owned lodge, was a source of Google’s AI Overview and ranked #4 on October 5, 2026. Two more Sedona inns followed at #6 and #7.
Write for the trip your property is made for.
Guests look for a getaway with the dog, a romantic weekend or a family vacation, and only then for a hotel. If you say clearly who your property is for and answer those guests’ questions, you get found for exactly those searches.
Evidence“pet friendly hotels” 90,500, “dog friendly beaches” 18,100, “romantic getaways” 12,100 searches a month. For “pet friendly hotels cape cod”, a beach resort’s dog-friendly page ranked #1 on October 5, 2026, and a Wellfleet boutique hotel’s guide for dog owners #5.
Plan the season before the season.
Searches for an occasion climb weeks ahead, and a new article needs time before Google places it. Fall foliage belongs online by early summer, Christmas and winter getaways by late summer.
Evidence“vermont fall foliage”: 3,600 searches in June 2026, 9,900 in August, 22,200 in September 2025. “gatlinburg christmas”: 6,600 in November 2025, 210 in February 2026.
Turn readers into direct bookings.
Someone who arrives through your guide already knows your property and books directly if the way is short. So every article needs a pointer to the matching package and a link to your booking page, with the total price including mandatory fees.
EvidenceUnder “hotel seo”, Google showed the question “Is it cheaper to book directly with hotel or with website?” on October 5, 2026. In the EU, Booking.com may not stop hotels from offering different prices on their own website (Digital Markets Act, Art. 5(3)).
Pitfalls and the law
What can go wrong in hotel content.
A guide on your hotel’s website is advertising for your property. These are the US rules worth knowing. This isn’t legal advice; if in doubt, ask your lawyer.
Prices without mandatory fees
If a guide names a rate, say for a fall foliage package, the FTC’s fee rule applies. Since May 12, 2025, anyone who advertises short-term lodging, from hotels to vacation rentals, must show the total price including mandatory fees such as resort or cleaning fees, more prominently than other pricing information. Taxes may be left out of it, but the final amount has to be shown before the guest pays.

The FTC’s rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, a free night or discount in exchange for a positive review, and reviews by staff or their relatives on third-party sites that misrepresent their experience. Hiding bad reviews while implying you show all of them is banned too. Asking every guest for an honest review is fine.
Source: 16 CFR Part 465 (FTC)Accessible rooms
If guests can book through your website, the ADA requires you to describe the accessible features of your property and guest rooms in enough detail that a guest with a disability can judge whether a room meets their needs. A vague “ADA compliant” in a guide doesn’t replace those details, so link to the room descriptions. “roll in shower hotel” gets 1,300 searches a month.

Hosting a travel blogger or influencer for a free or discounted stay is a material connection under the FTC’s Endorsement Guides, and their post has to disclose it clearly and conspicuously. If you quote their praise on your own site, keep the disclosure with it.

Questions
Good to know.
Is SEO worth it for a small hotel?
Yes, if you go after the right searches. For “hotels + town”, booking sites and travel media lead, and a blog helps little there. For questions about the area, the occasion and the season, Google and ChatGPT cite hosts who answer them well. That brings guests who know your property before they book.
How much does hotel SEO cost?
With Claire, €199 a month on Starter and €299 with the full SEO strategy and AI tracking, cancellable monthly. Your website’s technology, booking engine, Google Business Profile and listings on booking sites stay with you or your agency; Claire doesn’t handle those.
Can I do hotel SEO myself?
The basics, yes: a well-kept Google Business Profile, replies to reviews, your own photos and a website where guests can book directly. Where most hotels fall behind is writing alongside daily operations, in time for every season. Claire takes that over, you only approve.
How long does it take for a guide to get found?
Usually weeks to months, depending on competition and the age of your website. That’s why seasonal topics belong online months before the season: fall foliage by early summer, Christmas and winter getaways by late summer.
Does SEO bring more direct bookings than Booking.com or Expedia?
Guides don’t replace booking sites, they complement them. Guests who arrive through your article already know your property and can book with you directly, without a commission. In the EU, Booking.com has been a designated gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act since May 13, 2024, and may not stop hotels from offering different prices on their own websites.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
No. AI answers are built from web pages, and for trip planning they often cite local hosts: for “things to do in cape cod”, three of the eleven sources in Google’s AI Overview were Cape Cod lodgings (October 5, 2026). Being found on Google and being cited by AI go hand in hand.
How do I get my hotel recommended by ChatGPT?
With answers to the questions guests ask before the trip, and with mentions outside your website, for example in travel blogs, media and at your tourism bureau. The free AI check shows how often you’re named today. In Claire you then track it continuously in ChatGPT and Google AI and request media placements directly.
