Ecommerce SEO & AI visibility for online stores.

In short: category pages capture the buying searches, guides capture everything before. And far more people search before they buy: “best dog food” gets 69 times as many searches as “buy dog food”. AI answers lean on guides like these, too. Claire finds your customers’ questions, writes the answers in your voice and publishes them in your store once you approve.

What your customers search for

People search for the question, not for your store.

Before someone buys, they want to know which product fits, how two options differ and what to look out for. Four examples from niches Claire writes in for stores today, with US search data:

When people search

The season starts in September.

If you sell advent calendars, you need to be found by late summer. Demand peaks in November and is close to zero in spring. A guide that only goes live in November is too late for this year.

The levers

Five levers that really count in a store.

Technology, categories and product data are the foundation. Growth beyond the buying searches comes from content that answers questions.

Store team packing orders in the stockroom
01

Categories for the purchase, guides for everything before.

Someone searching “buy dog food” should land on your category page. Someone asking which dog food is best needs a guide that compares honestly and then points to the category. Aim both pages at the same keyword and they compete with each other.

Evidence“buy dog food” 480, “best dog food” 33,100 searches a month in the US.

02

Buying advice that explains ratings and differences.

The strongest guides clear up what customers don’t understand before buying: safety ratings, ingredients, sizes, differences. As a retailer you’re the most credible source for that, because you know the products and the questions customers ask.

EvidenceFor “composite toe vs steel toe”, five of the top seven results on October 5, 2026 came from boot brands and safety retailers.

03

Plan the season before it starts.

Seasonal searches climb weeks before the occasion, and a new article needs time before Google places it. If you start writing in November, you’re too late for this year.

Evidence“perfume advent calendar”: 3,600 searches in September 2025, 9,900 in October, 33,100 in November, 170 in June 2026.

04

Product data machines can read.

Your own product copy instead of the manufacturer’s, structured data on price, availability and reviews, a well-kept product feed. That’s your store platform’s job, not Claire’s.

EvidenceGoogle’s ecommerce documentation recommends both structured data on product pages and a product feed in Google Merchant Center.

05

Mentions outside your store.

AI answers name the brands that tests, comparisons and media write about. You can request media placements directly in Claire, with the price range shown up front.

EvidenceSunday Natural: more than 150 articles in trade media, 20% more traffic from AI search.

Pitfalls and the law

What can go wrong with store content.

A guide on your store’s site is advertising for your products. These are the rules worth knowing in the US and the EU. This isn’t legal advice; if in doubt, ask your lawyer.

Health claims

In the US, a supplement may say how a nutrient supports the body (a structure/function claim) only if the claim is substantiated, and on the label it needs the FDA’s disclaimer. Saying it diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents a disease is off limits for supplements. A guide in your store is advertising too, so hold it to the same standard. Selling into the EU? There, only health claims the EU has authorized are allowed.

Green claims

The FTC’s Green Guides warn against broad, unqualified claims like “green” or “eco-friendly”. In the EU, since September 27, 2026, generic environmental claims without recognized excellent environmental performance are banned, and so are product claims of being climate neutral based on carbon offsetting.

Comparisons and dupes

If your guide compares competitors, the comparison has to be accurate: in the US, the Lanham Act lets competitors sue over advertising that misrepresents their products or yours. In the EU, comparative advertising may not present goods as imitations or replicas of trademarked products (Directive 2006/114/EC). Still, “perfume dupes” gets 5,400 searches a month in the US.

Source: 15 U.S.C. § 1125 (Lanham Act)

Duplicate content

Manufacturer descriptions appear word for word in many other stores, and filters for color, size and price quickly create huge numbers of near-identical URLs. Both weaken your store on Google before a guide can even start to work.

Questions

Good to know.

What is SEO for ecommerce?

Everything that helps an online store get found in search: clean category and product pages, technical basics like speed and structured data, and content that answers what shoppers ask before they buy. The first two are your store platform’s job. The third is where most stores fall behind, and where Claire comes in.

Is SEO still worth it for an online store in 2026?

Yes, if you cover the right searches. The questions before a purchase are searched far more often than the buying terms, and those are exactly the questions Google’s AI Overviews and ChatGPT answer. To do so, they draw on guides, often from stores and brands.

How much does ecommerce SEO cost?

With Claire, €199 a month on Starter and €299 with the full SEO strategy and AI tracking, cancellable monthly. Technical work on your store, like speed, filter URLs or structured data, comes on top; your store platform or agency handles that.

Can I do SEO for my store on my own?

The basics, yes: clean categories, your own product copy, structured data. Where most stores fail is keeping it up: a guide every week, in time for the season, and old articles kept up to date. Claire takes that over, you only approve.

How long does it take for SEO to work in a store?

Usually weeks to months, depending on competition and the age of your domain. Planimol, a pet supplies store, had 30% more organic traffic after two months. That’s why seasonal topics should be online by late summer.

Should guides live in the store or on a separate website?

In the store, on the same domain. Then every guide also strengthens your categories, and readers are one click away from the product. That’s why Claire publishes straight to your store platform’s blog.

How do I get my store recommended by ChatGPT?

With answers to the questions customers ask before buying, and with mentions outside your store, for example in tests and media. The free AI check shows how often you’re named today. In Claire you then track it continuously in ChatGPT and Google AI.

Try it on your own website. Or check first whether ChatGPT knows you.

Enter your website, connect your blog, read the first draft. Before that, the free AI check shows how often ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity mention your brand and whom they recommend instead.
